The Office for Information Technology and e-Government has introduced eSeal in the cloud, a new service that allows public administration institutions to use electronic seals without physically obtaining certificates, making it the first provider of this service in Serbia, according to the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications.
“The advantages of this new service over the classic eSeal on a card include greater security and reliability, faster accessibility, and reduced costs for institutions. This service is provided free of charge to public administration by the Office for IT and e-Government, with the issued eSeal valid for up to five years. Implementing eSeal in the cloud further simplifies the provision of electronic services, making public administration even more efficient,” said the director of the Office for IT and e-Government, Dr. Mihailo Jovanović.
The service includes the issuance of a qualified certificate and an associated pair of cryptographic keys, where the private key is used to create the seal, and the public key is used for its validation. All certificates are securely stored in the State Data Center, which ensures a high level of security and reliability, allowing institutions to use them remotely through a web service, integrated with their information systems.
The procedure for obtaining an electronic seal involves submitting an application with accompanying documentation, connecting with the user’s information system, and conducting the key generation ceremony. This service is intended for all government bodies, organizations of provincial autonomy, local governments, public enterprises, as well as legal and natural persons entrusted with public authorities.
