There is no indication that the United States will impose sanctions on Serbia’s Oil Industry (NIS), despite concerns due to its majority Russian ownership, said U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill. 

NIS remains Serbia’s only refinery, raising questions about energy security.

Speaking to RTS about relations between Belgrade and Washington, Hill, who is celebrating his 1,000th day as ambassador to Serbia, emphasized that ties are strong and provide a solid platform for future development.

“I think it’s very important that we understand how we can move forward in the energy sector, which is a critical issue in Serbia as the country’s energy needs will continue to grow. I believe we are improving our capacity to discuss strategic issues, not just bilateral ones,” Hill stated.

He added that there are many topics for discussion, including peace in Europe and Serbia’s global connections.
