Grandmaster Aleksandar Inđić has been crowned the new European Chess Champion, the Chess Federation of Serbia announced.
Competing in Petrovac, Montenegro, Inđić secured the title with seven wins and four draws in 11 matches, earning a total of nine points and establishing himself as the best chess player in Europe. Notably, he was ranked 33rd at the start of the tournament, making his achievement even more remarkable.
The competition, held from November 7 to 19, featured 388 players from 42 European chess federations. The previous champion was also a member of Serbia’s national chess team, Aleksandar Saran. Serbia was represented by 24 players at this prestigious event.
