The seventh Belgrade Irish Festival will be held from 9-17 March under the slogan “Springtime in Belgrade!” at several locations in Belgrade, presenting some of the most exciting segments of Irish culture.
During the nine days of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the most significant and latest film achievements from Ireland, attractive exhibitions, literary evenings, workshops and other engaging cultural events.
“It is a pleasure to announce the 7th Belgrade Irish Festival, which will present exciting Irish and Serbian content in the field of film, music, literature, visual arts, and will culminate in the celebration of St.Patrick’s Day, which should not be missed on March 17th in Belgrade. The festival will be held from 9 to 17 March, and the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a number of programs including a seven-day film segments with documentary and children animated works, which will be opened by an Irish director nominated for Oscar Lena Abrahamson, the early Irish and Serbian spiritual art exhibition, and for the first time the festival will leave a permanent mark in Belgrade in the form of a great screen-art installation by Irish artist James Ehrlich,” said Jas Kaminski, director of the Belgrade Irish Festival.
The film program will present some of the most relevant films from Ireland, among which will include some of the most important films by Lenny Abrahamson, the director and 2016 Oscar nominee, who will also be the special guest of this year’s festival. Brie Larson has won the Oscar for the lead role in this performance, as well as the Golden Globe and the BAFTA Award. In addition to feature films and documentaries, the festival will pay special attention this year to animated movies for children and adults.
As part of the Visual Arts program, renowned artist-writer James Early will portray a mural / strat-art installation in downtown Belgrade, and the audience will also have the opportunity to see the incredible digital sculptures of the prestigious Irish artist John Gerrard.
For the first time this year, relying on the success of the Belgrade Irish Festival, in co-operation with the Embassy of Ireland, a one-day Digital Conference will be held, focusing on the creative digital industry in Serbia and Ireland and the possibility for companies to invest in Serbia. Representatives of Irish and Serbian companies will participate, and a special presentation will be held by the leading animation studio in Ireland – Cartoon Saloon, which has three Oscar nominations, as well as Golden Globe, BAFTA Award and Emmy. The conference will be opened by the Ambassador of Ireland, H.E. Orla O’ Hanrahan.
The festival will also feature Irish literature this year, and an exciting musical program is also expected.
