BELhospice Centre is organising it’s traditional 8th BELhospice Charity Ball “Let’s bond for the ones in need” on Saturday, 25 November, at the Hyatt Regency Belgrade Hotel at 19h.
This year, representatives of the Academy of Arts in Belgrade will perform at the Ball to collect funds for the palliative care of cancer patients and equipment for the day care centre of the first hospice in Serbia.
The same evening, the results achieved in 2017 of the campaign for the construction of a permanent hospice in Serbia will be presented. The construction of a permanent facility for the accommodation of cancer patients whose symptoms cannot be controlled in the home environment will enable the provision of top quality palliative care services completely free of charge.
As in previous years, the ball will be attended by about 350 officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the corporate sector, whose presence that evening and their participation in the live and silent auctions, will contribute to collecting funds for the work of the BELhospice Centre.
There are 30,000 new cancer patients in Serbia every year and 6,000 deaths from cancer in Belgrade alone. This shows a serious need for palliative care. This is a major social problem since palliative care is available to very few of these patients. In Belgrade and the rest of Serbia, there is still no permanent hospice, an institution to provide multidisciplinary palliative care for cancer patients in advanced stages of the disease and support to their families.
