Serbia’s first trade surplus with Germany in 20 years signals a deepening partnership and economic resilience amid global challenges
Serbia recorded a trade surplus with Germany for the first time in two decades, the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (AHK) reported, describing the development as a significant shift in bilateral relations.
They said that despite a global drop in German trade by 2.6% in 2024, trade with Serbia grew by 2%, with Serbian exports surpassing imports by €293 million.
AHK President Milan Grujić stated that more than 900 German companies in Serbia employed around 80,000 people and described Serbia as one of the few countries in the world with a surplus in trade with Germany.
He noted that 88% of German businesses would reinvest in Serbia, but added that EU integration and legal reforms remained key concerns.
German Ambassador Anke Konrad was quoted saying the surplus reflected the strength of bilateral ties and that Germany would continue supporting Serbia on its EU path.
Analysts from CEVES stressed that the cooperation remained mutually beneficial, especially as Serbia positioned itself as a near-shoring hub in a shifting global economy.
