In a landmark moment for Serbian science and philanthropy, the Miodrag Kostić Endowment – Palace of Science has been awarded the prestigious “Đorđe Vajfert” national prize for 2024, securing first place in this year’s jubilee edition.
The accolade, presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, recognises the project’s profound contribution to education, innovation and societal progress.
Founded by the late Miodrag Kostić, a visionary entrepreneur and one of the region’s most influential business figures, the Palace of Science opened its doors in central Belgrade late last year.
With a mission to promote scientific research and ignite public curiosity, the initiative was made possible by a €25 million philanthropic donation—Serbia’s largest of its kind.
Aleksandra Stojanović, director of the Palace of Science project, said the team was pleased that the importance of establishing the Endowment had been recognised.
She added that Kostić had created a space that honoured the power of the human mind and inspired a passion for knowledge, leaving a lasting legacy in the spirit of Serbia’s great benefactors.
She also noted that the centre offered young scientists the chance to work in top-tier conditions at home and lead the nation’s technological advancement.
The Palace stands as a powerful testament to Kostić’s enduring belief: knowledge is the one asset no one can take away.
