Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic met in Moscow Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said that the ties between the two countries are developing successfully.
Putin expressed the expectation that Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev will visit Belgrade soon.
“I hope that we will analyse the current positive agenda of Russia-Serbia relations – I would like to remind of the Serbian PM’s visit to Russia last autumn and of the Russian PM’s planned visit to Serbia,” Putin said at the start of the meeting, RIA Novosti reported.
“The relations between the two countries are good, and many shared historical events link them,” Putin said.
He congratulated Nikolic on the award bestowed upon him by the Fund of the Unity of Orthodox Peoples.
Nikolic thanked Russia for the courage shown in fighting the so-called Islamic State and for its understanding of Serbia’s conduct in international relations.
“Serbia must remain militarily neutral,” Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We absolutely agree that Serbia must remain military neutral and my opinion is that balance must be maintained in a situation like this – what has been signed with some should also be signed with others, without joining any military alliances, Nikolic told reporters after the meeting with Putin in the Kremlin, RIA Novosti reported.
