Elon Musk, the American tech-billionaire and advisor to President Donald Trump, expressed his hope for the establishment of a free trade zone between Europe and United States during a video address at the congress of Italy’s right-wing League party in Florence.
Speaking to League leader Matteo Salvini, Musk stated, “At the end of the day, I hope it is agreed that both Europe and the United States should move ideally in my view to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free-trade zone.”
His remarks come shortly after President Trump announced a 20% tariff on imports from European Union countries, including Italy. Musk also advocated for greater freedom of movement between Europe and US, emphasizing that individuals should be allowed to work in either region if they wish.
Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, a member of the League party, has called for de-escalation in response to the U.S. tariffs and cautioned against imposing retaliatory measures.
