In a new report from Eurostat, it’s revealed that in 2023, multinational corporations were responsible for a staggering 29.3% of all employment in the EU’s business economy, spanning industry, construction, and services.
A total of 151,004 such firms operated within the EU and EFTA, providing jobs to 49 million people.
The majority—63.7%—of these corporations were EU-controlled, with Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland leading the pack.
Germany alone commanded 10.3% of all multinational entities, employing a significant portion of the workforce.
In contrast, non-EU countries like the UK and the US controlled large portions of the corporate sector, though their firms employed a smaller share of workers in the region.
This report underscores the ever-growing influence of multinational corporations, shaping economies and industries across Europe, from bustling metropolises to industrial hubs.
