The Office of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres delivered separate letters to the permanent missions of Russia and Ukraine to the UN, with the wish of United Nations leaders to visit Moscow and Kyiv.
Guterres asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to receive him in Moscow, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a visit to Kyiv, said the Secretary General’s spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, TASS reports.
“The Secretary General has said that at this time of great danger and serious consequences, he would like to discuss urgent steps to achieve peace in Ukraine, as well as the future of multilateralism based on the United Nations Charter and international law”, said Dujarric in a statement.
Earlier, Guterres had called for a four-day Orthodox Easter humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine, to enable the safe passage of civilians who want to leave conflict zones, and to deliver humanitarian aid to hard-hit areas.
