Finland has launched a public debate that could lead to the country’s application for NATO membership within a few weeks, reports the BBC.

A report prepared and published at the request of the government examines the “fundamentally altered security environment”, according to documents of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will pass through a parliamentary procedure.

The beginning of the public debate is planned for the following week, according to the BBC and reported by Tanjug.
