In 2024, Europe’s five largest motorcycle markets saw a notable increase in sales, fueled by the demand for urban mobility solutions and lifestyle choices.
Motorcycle sales in Europe soared in 2024, reflecting a growing preference for two-wheeled transport. As urban congestion continues to plague major cities, more commuters are turning to motorcycles as an efficient alternative.
According to the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM), sales across the five largest European markets—Italy, Spain, the UK, France, and Germany—reached 1.16 million units, marking a 10.1% increase from 2023.
Germany led the charge, with a remarkable 16.3% growth.
The Italian market remained the largest, contributing nearly 353,000 units, while Spain and France posted more modest gains.
Despite a decline in moped sales, notably in France and Spain, Italy saw a significant uptick, reinforcing the trend towards powered two-wheelers.
The introduction of the Euro 5+ standard in January 2025 is likely to influence the market further, potentially correcting trends in the first half of 2025.This shift highlights motorcycles not only as a practical commuting option but also as part of a broader movement toward sustainable urban mobility solutions.
