Circular migration agency to be set up in several weeks

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced that a circular migration agency is set to be formed in several weeks, whose task will be to improve the return of the Serbian people from abroad.

Brnabic explained that the government is working on forming this agency together with the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, donors and people who participated in the organisation of the “Talent Gathered” event, which was held last year.

She added that it was agreed that the agency is established as a foundation in which the Serbian government is only one of the founders.

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce will provide part of the financing, so I expect that this foundation will be formally registered within the next few weeks, the Prime Minister said.

She also pointed out that a lot has been done regarding the recognition of diplomas and that this will soon be seen in the proposed changes and amendments to the law.

We have the situation in our tax system that when people return from abroad, regardless of whether they spent there five months or 15 years, they can return to the country assets worth up to €5,000 only and on everything above that sum they need to pay tax.

This is very discouraging for people who want to return to Serbia and that is why this limit will be raised.

The Prime Minister explained that this will be solved through the changes and amendments to tax laws that will be valid as of January 2020.
