China has developed a new weather modification drone system capable of detecting clouds, rain, winds and aerosols in the air along its flight path.
According to China Media Group, the success of the first flight marks a breakthrough for Chinese-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for weather detection and modification.
Those aircraft can contribute to disaster reduction and environmental protection, the Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation announced.
The platform, which is characterized by heavy load, long life, low maintenance cost and quick deployment, completed its 75-minute maiden flight from an airport in northwest China’s Shanxi Province.
