Algeria has submitted an official application to join the BRICS group of major developing economies, Leyla Zeruki, special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for international partnerships, told the Algerian state radio, Al-Shouruk portal reported.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Teboun recently announced that the country is interested in joining the BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, stating that the country largely meets the criteria for membership.

The Russian ambassador to Algeria Valerian Shuvayev said on this occasion that Moscow has no objections to the accession of Algeria, reports Rasha today.
