This year Belgrade will host coveted Irish dancer from the United States, Jean Butler (Riverdance), who will perform in Belgrade for the first time, at the city’s legendary BITEF Theatre. Also coming to these parts for the first time is David Caffrey, a talented Irish director, whose most recent work includes directing the third season of the hit series ‘Peaky Blinders’.
Every day throughout the festival’s film programme, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy an interesting selection of films and documentaries on the subject of music at the old Cinematheque Film Archive (Kosovska Street). A special 3D listening event will be organised with talented singer-songwriter Dylan Tighe, the Serbian capital’s old Irish friend and a Belgrader for 10 years already.
TRAD Music from County Kilkenny will perform in the narrow streets of Vračar, primarily at the bar of the festival – Monk’s, where the audience is welcome every day for a pint of beer and a chat before and after all festival events. Delicious Irish specialities will be served during the festival at KC Grad, Smokvici (Molerova) and Hotel Park; and you can also drop in at Moritz Eis, which will celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a special green ice cream.
We are delighted to again introduce to you local band O Bato. You also shouldn’t miss the screening of the rarely shown and beautiful short film on Kalenić Market, one of the oldest markets in the city – the Serbian version of Smithfield (Dublin’s famous market). This short film will be shown together with “The Dead”, a John Huston film recorded on 35mm film, which is based on the last story in James Joyce’s book “Dubliners”, and represents the fusion of two melodic dystopias from two distant European capitals, from two different centuries. While you walk around the city, look in all directions, because this year even more buildings will be illuminated in green in the evenings around St Patrick’s Day.
