Airports in Sarajevo, Tivat, and Zagreb have emerged as the top performers in the former Yugoslavia, registering the highest passenger growth in July 2024.
Sarajevo led the pack with a remarkable 37.2% increase in travellers compared to the previous year. Tivat followed closely with a 33.8% rise, while Zagreb saw a 17.2% boost in passenger numbers.
These impressive figures are part of a broader trend, as airports across the region handled a combined total of nearly 20 million passengers in the first seven months of the year. The continued growth at these key airports underscores their importance in the region’s aviation sector, particularly as they recover from the challenges of recent years.
Meanwhile, on a European scale, Belgrade Airport ranked as the 70th busiest on the continent, with Zagreb entering the top 100 at 99th place. Pristina Airport followed at 106th, and Skopje ranked 127th. Croatia’s aviation market stood out as the fastest-growing in the region, adding over one million passengers by the end of July compared to the same period last year.
