American theatre director and playwright Robert Wilson opened the 50th Bitef at Belgrade’s National Theatre, comparing this Belgrade festival with the core that reflects the universe, with a cathedral where the inhabitants of a medieval village seek enlightenment and knowledge.

In the packed hall of the National Theatre, the 50th Bitef officially opened with the play of China’s “Tao” theatre.

The opening ceremony was attended, amongst others, by Serbian Minister of Culture and Information Vladan Vukosavljević, representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as the creators who have marked this festival’s five-decade-long history.

Until 2nd October, under the slogan “On the back of the raging bull” a total of 12 plays will be performed, while a significant segment of this jubilee Bitef is represented by the 28th Congress of the International Association of Theatre Critics.
