In an uplifting show of solidarity, the International Women’s Club (IWC) has awarded funding to ten grassroots organisations across Serbia under its annual initiative, Women for Women. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Belgrade on 5 May, where contracts were signed with local partners tackling some of the most urgent challenges facing women today.
Chosen from 35 applicants, the selected projects span the breadth of the country and offer support in areas such as mental health, breast cancer recovery, gender-based violence, skills training, and assistance for single mothers, Roma women, and women in recovery. “This year stands out for its geographic diversity and innovative spirit,” said Christina Czettl, Head of the IWC Charity Committee.

The ceremony opened with remarks by IWC President Andrea Pavukova, spouse of the Slovak Ambassador to Serbia, who underscored the long-term value of community-led change. “This is not just a ceremony — it’s a commitment to action,” she said. “Together, we are building a stronger network of support for women across Serbia — especially where it’s needed most.”

Several returning partners were among the recipients, including SOS Children’s Villages and the Centre for Support of Women. The latter reported that 75 women and girls sought help between April and November 2024, 36 of whom were survivors of sexual violence. “No woman should ever have to endure such trauma,” said Czettl. “That’s why we’re dedicated to offering the support and care needed to heal and rebuild.”

Now in its second year under the Women for Women banner, the initiative reflects the IWC’s steadfast belief that grassroots empowerment is key to national resilience. As these projects begin their work, a powerful message echoes from Belgrade to the furthest corners of Serbia: women standing with women can change lives.
