Ambassador of France H.E. Pierre Cauchard said at the reception on the occasion of the National Day on 14 July that the French-Serbian friendship was not only built on memories but is also based on the project of a common future.

“It is a project for a common future in the European Union,” the ambassador said, adding that the conversations he had during the six-month French presidency of the Council of the European Union with Serbian intellectuals, journalists, entrepreneurs, representatives of local authorities and young people convinced him that their deep aspirations are going in that direction despite sometimes impatience and frustrations.

As he stated, for Serbia, as well as for France and other EU members, choosing the EU in no way means renouncing one’s own identity.

“On the contrary, at a time when the destructive war waged by the Russian regime against the Ukrainian people, that choice is for Serbia and for France a means to preserve independence, freedom, to resist the demons of nationalism,” the ambassador stated at the reception attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, ministers Siniša Mali, Jadranka Joksimović, Anđelka Atanasković, representatives of the diplomatic corps, religious communities, cultural and political life…
