Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár, attended the official opening of Slovakia’s Honorary Consulate in Bački Petrovac during his visit to Serbia.

Blanár noted that the opening of the Honorary Consulate is a significant event, especially considering that Slovaks settled in this region more than 250 years ago.

“During those 250 years, Slovaks have managed to preserve their native language, develop their traditions, and build very favorable and strong relations with Serbia, where they have found their new home,” said the Slovak Foreign Minister.

He expressed his belief that there are not many countries in the world, like Slovakia and Serbia, with such mutual relations, and recalled that in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, more than 30 municipalities are inhabited by Slovaks who continue to develop their culture and language, with their own educational and cultural institutions, supported by both the national and provincial governments.
