In front of the Serbian Medical Society (SLD) in Belgrade on 8th June, the monument to Ludwik Hirszfeld was unveiled. The monument was officially unveiled by Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Mr Kincuk and president of SLD R. Colovic.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the city government in Belgrade, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Polish community and guests from abroad, as well as Mrs. M. Balinjska – cousin of L. Hirszfeld, who lives in Switzerland, member and former director of the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy “Ludwik Hirszfeld” in Wroclaw professor A. Gursky and representatives of the Polish army (General S. zMUD, Colonel S. Majhšak).
Ludwik Hirszfeld in Serbia well known and appreciated for the fact that during World War I volunteered to serve in the Army of Serbia as a doctor and to help prevent the spread of epidemic typhus among soldiers.
