The building of the future hospice centre in Mali Mokri Lug provided the venue for the BELhospice annual award to be presented to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Arne Sannes Bjørnstad.
“Thanks to the support of the Kingdom of Norway in the form of a two-year grant programme totalling €117,224, we have taken care of over 1,500 oncological patients and members of their families. Moreover, we secured over 4,500 free home visits, as well as 8,800 telephone consultations,” noted BELhospice Centre Director Vera Madžgalj.
Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Bjørnstad said that “palliative care is respect for human dignity. I am grateful for the award, but it is actually the BELhpice Centre employees and their volunteers who deserve the award”.
Chairman of the Board of Patrons of BELhospice Centre, Belgian Ambassador H.E. Leo D’aes, thanked the Norwegian Embassy for the assistance provided and underline that the next activities of the BELhospice Centre will be directed towards both the provision of services and the establishment of close cooperation with the relevant ministries and institutions of the system, with the aim of improving palliative care.
