The Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Serbia (CCIS), the Embassy of France in Serbia and the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce have held a business conference, under the auspices of French Week, entitled “City of the Future: the French experience”, aimed at presenting some of France’s best solutions for the use of advanced technology to create sustainable cities.

This occasion saw some of France’s top experts come to Belgrade and give presentations for the local public.

The conference was opened by CCIS Deputy President Miroslav Miletić, H.E. French Ambassador Christine Moro and French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce President Dragoljub Damljanović. All speakers made reference to forecasts of a drastic increase in the urban population globally and stressed the importance of building smart cities to ensure a high quality of life for people worldwide.

The gathering included the participation of the largest French groups working in the field of sustainable cities in various areas: energy efficiency and optimisation, waste management, water and sanitation, urban development, smart buildings and public transport.

Matthieu Loussier from Egis presented an example of a smart city through the half-hour 3D simulation project “Attainable”, which was carried out for the city of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, while Pierre Gautier, a famous French urbanist from PGA Architects architectural bureau, presented a project on the city of the future based on the example of Strasbourg in France. Presentations of other French groups followed: Schneider Electric, Suez Environment, Veolia, Saint-Gobain, Bouygues Construction and Alstom.
