A contract on the construction of a regional waste treatment facility in the Belgrade suburb of Vinča was signed on 29th September between the City of Belgrade and French-Japanese consortium Suez–Itochu.
This is one of the most important environmental projects in the region and the first to be developed within the framework of the public-private partnership model.
The project, which is worth around 300 million euros, consists of clearing the existing landfill site, which is one of the biggest open-air dumps in Europe, constructing a new warehousing centre that’s in accordance with European standards and an incineration unit for the production of electricity and heat.
Apart from creating a sustainable waste treatment solution in the capital city and improving the lives of people, this project also contributes to meeting Serbia’s obligations in the ecological domain.
