The European Union is intensifying its cultural engagement in Serbia, as highlighted at a panel discussion in Užice, part of the “Europe is Our Home” campaign.
Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret emphasized the shared goal of a stronger EU with Serbia as a member, aligning with the celebrations of Europe Day 2024. Užice, this year’s national capital of culture, hosted the event focusing on preserving cultural heritage.
The EU Delegation’s series of debates across Serbia aims to foster dialogue on cultural policies and heritage protection. Besides Užice, discussions have taken place in Subotica, Novi Pazar, and Kragujevac, with the final debate scheduled for Zaječar.
The panel also explored the broader impact of cultural initiatives under the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus, which strive to integrate cultural heritage into sustainable and inclusive living spaces. The EU’s commitment extends to protecting local identities and reviving endangered crafts, crucial for maintaining Europe’s diverse cultural landscape.
In support of these cultural endeavors, the EU has aided in the restoration of significant historical sites across Serbia, demonstrating its dedication to safeguarding and promoting the region’s rich historical tapestry.
