In a strategic reshuffle, Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar has appointed Damjan Bergant as her new foreign policy adviser.
Bergant, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience, will replace Miriam Možgan, who held the position until October last year.
A former ambassador to Belgrade, Bergant’s career spans significant roles, including general secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassador to the Council of Europe.
His new role places him at the heart of Slovenia’s diplomatic efforts, effective from March 3rd.
The appointment follows a complex period in Slovenian diplomacy, notably the extension of Bergant’s ambassadorial mandate in Belgrade after delays in the Serbian ambassador’s appointment to Ljubljana.
This move strengthens the President’s international team, which now includes ten advisers with diverse portfolios ranging from security and climate policy to sports and human rights.
Notably, some advisers, including Zoran Stančič and Igor Mervič, serve pro bono.
