Nisville: Contemporary Jazz Music

One of the world’s leading Summer Jazz Festivals…Nišville International Jazz Festival in Serbia is back this August 2017. Featuring International Jazz Greats and a Huge Lineup of European Jazz Musicians, this is the Summer Jazz Festival that has locals and international visitors buzzing with excitement!

Nišville Jazz Festival’s (10 – 13 August) unique concept is to present “traditional” jazz forms alongside ethnic traditions from other parts of the world, especially the Balkans: a fascinating fusion has kicked off. The main programme is held on 2 connected stages in the Fortress of Niš; there are also many free stages in the Fortress and the city: River, Open, Movie, Welcome, Youth and Jam Session Stages. For 4 days over 100,000 visitors enjoy performances, films, theatre, exhibitions and book events.

The International Nisville jazz festival is the largest and most-visited jazz festival in Southeastern Europe and was the winner of the award “The best from Serbia” in 2011. In the European Union magazine “New Europe”, published in Brussels, the festival has been reviewed as the “European face of Serbia”.

Since the first edition of the festival in 1995, Nisville has been promoting the multiculturism is the inevitable characteristic of contemporary jazz music. The festival’s concept is based on presenting the ‘traditional’ jazz forms together with their fusion with the world music tradition, with the emphasis on the music from the Balkans. One of the most famous jazz magazines, the American ‘Downbeat’ values Nisville as the important musical event as the promotion of both the traditional Balkan music and American jazz heritage. According to the magazine, Nisville speciality is the popularizing the blend of the two.

For eight years in a row, Nišville jazz festival has had the status of ‘the festival of jazz and volunteers’. Starting from 2010, more than 2500 volunteers have participated in the organization of the festival.

This year some of the international guests include Candy Dulfer, Pattie Austin, Tony Momrelle, Reggae Star Alpha Blondy, Legendary DrummerAl Foster and his Quintet, Bass Player & Vocalist Nick West, Special Guest legendary USA Guitarist Mike Stern performs with Hungarian Band ‘BalkanUnion’ Plus Some of The Best Jazz Musicians’ from across Europe…
