Italian Design Day In The World

This year will see the Embassy of Italy in Belgrade and the Italian Cultural Institute organise the 3rd Italian Design Day in the World. One of Italy’s most popular initiatives, it enables professionals, scholars and enthusiasts of Italian design to examine a unique aspect of Italian genius: the production of beauty!

While furniture design is by far the major sector in which Italian industrial design is recognised as a leader worldwide, Italy is certainly also a major player in lighting design, automotive design, and graphic and web design

The unspoken ability to espouse functionality and beauty, which today characterises Italian designers, has its roots back in the Renaissance “botteghe”, where craftsmanship and art were inseparable ingredients of the creative process. Italian design – thanks to its ability to absorb new technologies, new materials and new concepts – is recognised worldwide as a leader in fashion, architecture, urban planning, interiors, graphics and all other forms of design.

Industrial development during the period of World War I made it possible the rise of the principle of industrial design: design could become serial! While furniture design is by far the major sector in which Italian industrial design is recognised as a leader worldwide, Italy is certainly also a major player in lighting design, automotive design, and graphics and web design.
