Director of IT and e-Government Office Asst. prof. Mihailo Jovanović, PhD, participated today in the panel “E-Government – the backbone of contemporary society”, held within the fourth Jahorina Economic Forum, where he presented the results that the Government of the Republic of Serbia achieved in the digitalization of public administration and the implementation of e-Government services.

In his presentation, Jovanović highlighted the key reason for the success of e-government in Serbia – setting digitalization as one of the priorities of Prime Minister Ana Brnabić’s Government, as well as her decision to establish the Office for IT and e-Government as a Government service.

“Projects like ‘Baby, welcome to the world’, eZUP (Law on General Administrative Procedure), eKatastar (cadastre), eRecept (prescription), ePravosuđe (judiciary), electronic registration of seasonal workers, Local tax administration portal and eUpis (enrolment of children in kindergartens) are examples of how the Government of the Republic of Serbia transformed public administration into an efficient service for citizens through the digitalization by providing millions of electronic services on annual level”, said Jovanović.

He pointed out that the Digital Summit of the Western Balkans, which was held in Belgrade at the beginning of the month, proved that there is strong political will in Serbia and the region for the digital transformation of the entire region. Regional exchange of knowledge and ideas, but also regional linking and enabling electronic services within the region, is invaluable for further development of every economy, but also of the region as a whole.

“By establishing a knowledge hub, the Office for IT and e-Government is ready to become a regional centre of the Western Balkans for development and implementation of modern information systems and technologies, especially in the field of e-Government, artificial intelligence and robotics,” Jovanović concluded.
