Seminar Highlights Opportunities for Bilateral Business and Economic Growth
The Embassy of Malaysia in Belgrade organized a Seminar on Promoting Malaysian Palm Oil to the Republic of Serbia on Thursday, 14 November 2024 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Belgrade.
The event was officiated by Mrs. Carmallia Budiaty bt. Che Embi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia in Belgrade. In her opening address, she highlighted the potential benefits of closer engagement between Malaysian and Serbian business communities, emphasizing opportunities for expanding economic cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness of palm oil usage among Serbian consumers. It included an address by Mrs. Belvinder Sron Kaur, CEO of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), followed by presentations by Mrs. Areej Taufik, MPOC Senior Executive, and Mr. Hakan Alkan, Regional Manager of MPOC Turkey (covering Serbia on a non-residential basis). Their presentations provided detailed insights into the diverse applications and benefits of palm oil for the Serbian market.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Belgrade hosted a pioneering seminar aimed at promoting Malaysian palm oil in Serbia, emphasizing its potential to strengthen economic ties and diversify the Serbian market. Featuring presentations by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council and key stakeholders from both countries, the event underscored the benefits of palm oil and its wide-ranging applications for Serbian consumers
The event also featured an interactive session titled Sharing the Experiences, with contributions from Mrs. Jovana Majstorović, Head of the Centre for Asia, Russian Federation, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, and Mr. Djordje Mihajlović, General Manager of the Port Pančevo and representative of AD Vital Company, a major Serbian importer and distributor of palm oil. Both shared their positive experiences from attending the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum (MPOF) 2024 in Kuala Lumpur and visiting a Malaysian palm oil plantation in October.
As the first event of its kind in Serbia, the seminar attracted notable participation and received positive feedback from Serbian Government officials, representatives of business associations, importers, distributors, and companies from the food and hospitality industries. It also garnered interest from the Serbia-Malaysia Friendship Club and local media, marking a significant step in fostering closer economic ties between the two nations.
