Vukašin ObradovićVukašin Obradović, President of the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS), has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Press Council’s Managing Board, it was decided at the constitutional session of the Council’s Managing Board. Obradović will head the Press Council for the next two years, while the Chairwoman of the Local Press’s Managing Board, Mileva Malešić, will serve as his deputy.
Obradović was born in Vranje in 1962 and graduated in journalism at Belgrade’s Faculty of Political Sciences in 1987. During his studies he collaborated with newsrooms of the youth journals The Student, NON, Mladost and Stav. From 1989 to 1993 he worked at daily Politika Ekspres. After resigning from this position due to disagreements with the then editorial policy, he launched Vranjske, a local weekly, in 1994. Until the year 2000, Vranjske was the only independent medium in South Serbia. He has received the Dušan Bogavac, Jug Grizelj and Stanislav Staša Marinković awards for his journalistic work.
