Ambassador Kimmo Lähdevirta (59) started his diplomatic career at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, serving as Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN in New York, then as First Secretary to the United Nations Unit at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and as European Correspondent within the Political Department.
Having served as Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in London, Director of the European Correspondent Unit and Director of the Unit for Security Policy in the Ministry, and as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Beijing, he was appointed Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam in 2011.
Prior to his recent arrival in Belgrade to take on the post of ambassador to Serbia, he held the position of Director General of the Department of the Americas and Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
