José López Thomás de Carranza is the new Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Spain in Serbia and in Montenegro. Since 1 September 2020, his responsibilities include the promotion of bilateral economic and commercial relations between Serbia and Spain, including the internationalization of Spanish companies as well the fostering of Spanish investments.
He belongs to the High Corps of Spanish State Economists and Trade Experts, the body of the Spanish administration in charge of formulating and executing the economic and trade policies of the government of Spain. Previously, he worked in the team of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation deciding the position of Spain in the different Multilateral Financial Institutions. Among other functions, he has represented Spain at the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank. He has also participated in the negotiations of the 7th General Capital Increase of the African Development Bank and various replenishments of the African Development Fund and the Asian Development Fund.
José López Thomás de Carranza studied Law and Business Administration at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE-E3) and completed a Master’s Degree in EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies at the College of Europe (Bruges).
