U.S. Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Anthony F. Godfrey graduated with Highest Honours from the University of California at Davis.
The recipient of numerous awards, including the James A. Baker III Award as the Best Deputy Chief of Mission for 2018, Ambassador Godfrey is a career diplomat of the Minister Counsellor class. He served at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 2015 to 2019 , initially as Minister-Counsellor for Political Affairs and then as Deputy Chief of Mission. From 2013 to 2015 he was director of Iraqi affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, prior to which – from 2012 to ’13 – he held the post of Political Minister Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
Over the course of a career spanning nearly 40 years, encompassing service in both the U.S. Navy and the State Department, Ambassador Godfrey has become an expert in Central and Southern European affairs. Married to Anne Godfrey, formerly O’Toole, with whom he has three children, Ambassador Godfrey speaks Russian, Serbo-Croat and Turkish.
