The editorial marathon #WikiGap on the theme “Women – Shadow Leaders” was held in Belgrade as part of a global campaign for gender equality on the Internet organised by the Swedish Embassy and Wikimedia Serbia.

#WikiGap is a global initiative launched by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the aim of increasing content on women on the Internet, and thus their visibility.

Belgrade is the first of 50 cities in the world to organise various actions under the name #WikiGap on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on 8 March. The aim is for women and their successes are better represented in Wikipedia and on the Internet in general. It is estimated that about 90% of  Internet content is created by men and that the number of articles about them is four times higher than about women.

“With this action, we want to contribute to overcoming the gap between the representation of women and men on the Internet,” said Swedish Ambassador H.E. Jan Lundin.
