Prince Philip had his old Aston Martin sports car modified so that the Queen could check her hat and he could make prank calls to Prince Charles, it has been revealed as the 1950s convertible goes up for sale for the first time in nearly 40 years.
The 1954 Lagonda 3-Litre Drophead Coupe, worth around €580,000, was made to order for the Duke of Edinburgh, winning Aston Martin its first Royal Warrant.
The convertible served as Prince Philip’s personal car for around seven years and was used to ferry Prince Charles to and from Cheam prep school and for trips to Cowdray Park for polo.
“This car is part of our history,” said Damian Jones, Sales Manager at auction house H&H.
