Addressing around a hundred participants in a ceremony at the Palace of Serbia marking the 10th anniversary of the Institute of the Protector of Citizens (Ombudsman), existing Ombudsman, Saša Jankovic, announced that he was tendering his resignation, and called on his colleagues to do the same. The resignation comes following Jankovic’s decision to run for the presidency of Serbia.

Speaking about the role of the Ombudsman, Jankovic said: “We’re protecting the Ombudsman, we will need him. I have finished my mission here”.

Among officials in attendance were representatives of the diplomatic corps, leaders of opposition parties and representatives of the EU, NGOs and the media, as well as Jankovic’s friends and associates.
