The New England Patriots won Super Bowl LI on February 5, pulling off an amazing comeback to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in the first-ever overtime game in the NFL championship event’s history.
Super Bowl is the most celebrated annual event in the US and the National Football League (NFL) is the biggest, most profitable sports league in the world with revenue north of $13 billion.
Everything about the Super Bowl is big, from the 110-million-plus crowds that gather to watch the Super Bowl, to the platters of greasy snacks and pints of beer, to the size of the players themselves.
Each player on the winning side of the Super Bowl received $107,000, up to $5,000 from last year. Players on the losing team got $53,000. Players on both teams earned $76,000 each all ready for their first two playoff wins in January.
To cover the costs, revenue is coming from various sources. Total spending on ads over 51 Super Bowls reached $4.9 billion this year (30 second Super Bowl spot was as much as $5.02 million on Fox TV).
Tickets on the resale market were listed for an average of $4,243.
