Dazzling Rio carnival 2016 climax gives Brazilians reason to smile Dancers – some nearly naked, others in elaborate costumes – strutted into the final round of the Rio Carnival samba championship, that has helped Brazilians to forget about Zika and other worries.

Probably the most famous of world festivals, the addictively chaotic Rio Carnival is an annual 5-day celebration of unbridled energy, passion and pride.

With over 200 samba schools in attendance, it’s a massive parade of elaborate ensembles and choreographed story telling.

Carnival marks the beginning of Lent and starts 5 days before Ash Wednesday – this year it was February 5th to February 10th.
